Before Maybe Phil can leave again, you decide to ask, "You mentioned Molly being a great employee. Could you elaborate?"
Maybe Phil's face lights up. "Oh, yeah. Molly is great. Just great. She's like a ray of sunshine in a coal mine, to be honest. Building tires can be a dreary business. It's nice to have a smiling face around."
The Drew nods. "So she's a morale boost, huh?"
Maybe Phil cocks his head. "And not just that. She may be the hardest worker I have. First to clock in and the last to clock out, every shift she works."
You ask, "Did you notice anything different about her last Friday?"
Maybe Phil wrinkles his face up and rubs at the back of his neck, thinking. "Last Friday ... oh, yeah, as a matter of fact. She spilled paint all over her hands. White paint. First time I've ever known her to make a mistake, to be honest. She asked me to clock out a few minutes early to go get cleaned up. It was right at the end of shift, so it was no big deal. Of course I said yes. She's never asked anything like that before."
